BASICS

  1. How long is the program?
The program spans 6 months and includes 3 weeks of community outreach implementation. During the Fall cohort, there will also be 3 weeks of rest since class flows through the holiday season.

  2. What is the weekly time commitment?
In the first 3 months of the program class is designed to weave coursework into daily life and clear away non-essential commitments. During this time I recommend spending about 5 hours per week devoted to class reading and media.
In the second half of the class, community outreach is the focus. During this time I recommend 10 - 15 hours per week.

  3. What are the requirements for the course?
At the end of the first session, students share an art project. At the end of the second session, students are guided to participate in some type of community initiative. They can either plan their own or join an initiative that's already organized. The coursework will guide and support students through the creation in both sessions.

  4. What community initiatives does my participation in class support?

All students who register for Devotion in Action are directly supporting these community initatives:
          > planting between 50 - 200 trees per student
          > creating scholarships for POC & LGBTQIA
          > supporting female & POC run small business in partnership with Vyana Ma
          > supporting green businesses like our eco-conscious manual printer
          > carbon neutrality for my business and personal carbon emissions (I offset via Climate Neutral Now)

And the new Southern California events I will be launching in late summer 2017:
          > weekly fundraiser movement class in Ojai, CA to support single mothers and children
          > monthly fundraiser sound healing in Ojai, CA to support various organizations focused on creating inclusive and safe space for marginalized communities
          > monthly free teen art night in Cuyama, CA for local migrant families

  5. How long can I access the program materials?
Unlike most online courses, Devotion in Action is centered around a printed course manual that is over 400 pages. With this physical anchor, students can access class content effortless forever. Along with the printed manual, alumni have lifelong access to the Spirit School alumni portal where a digital copy of the manual can be found along with all course digital assets, plus lifelong access to our private Facebook community space.

  6. How is class structured?
Each week is anchored by a theme outlined in the course manual. There are 12 live classes throughout the program which are held via Crowdcast. Crowdcast allows Vyana to stream video while students can chat live, ask questions, and answer polls. Recordings will be available indefinitely after class ends.

Student's will be assigned small study groups of 5 - 7 classmates. These groups have the option of using Slack to create a study group thread, or can communicate via email. Participation in the study group is optional, and offered as a way to connect more intimately with classmates.

At the end of each session, students are assigned a project which is to be shared in the community Facebook group and within their study group for support, and reflection.

During the course, there are 3 implementation weeks. During this time, new curriculum is kept to a minimum so students can integrate and digest the work done throughout class and prepare to connect with their community.

Fall cohorts will have an additional 3 weeks of rest during the holiday period where the week count will pause and resume after a week - 2 week rest.

FINANCES

  1. How does the 'pay what you can' model work?
This system is designed to help serve all of us. The basic idea behind any 'pay what you can' model is that those who have the means to pay more do so and which balances the spaces offered at a lower rate.

Only the Summer 2017 cohort of this course will be offered as 'pay what you can.'

If you are not sure what to pay, take some time to meditate on the program.
This is a 6 month long program with a 400+ page manual & digital content like meditations and coloring pages. It has been a labor of love to create and is truly the best work I've put into the world to date. We'll meet for live classes, FB Live hangouts, and group shares in our class forum. Throughout the duration of the 6 months, I will continue to give my energy and resources.

When considering what to pay, give what feels like an equal exchange of energy and what is accessible for you in this moment.

  2. Are there scholarships available?
Yes! There are 4 full scholarship spaces available for the Fall 2017 cohort. These spaces are reserved for LGBTQIA & POC. Scholarship spaces include a digital copy of the Devotion in Action manual, participation in our private Facebook forum, and all digital course assets. Scholarship recipients also have the option of adding the additional $40 curated box of black crafted products. This box is not included in the scholarship.
