How To Transfer a Sketch to a Painting

This mini tutorial is specifically for watercolor painting.

More tips on transferring your sketch:

  • If you have a watersoluble pencil, use that to make your measurement markings right on your paper.

  • You can use whatever paper you like to sketch on. I like transfer paper so I can see my under markings and the carbon paper, but printer paper is perfectly sufficient.

  • You can make your sketch darker after transfer with a water soluble pencil.

  • Make as detailed of a sketch as you desire having for your piece. Take time at this stage to dial in your vision.

  • Washi tape is best for holding your sketch in place because it won’t damage your paper.
