Burning Skin

Some stories are still painful to tell. This is one of those. Putting words to it still feels unreachable, and I don’t know that I’ll ever reach them. My guess is that the story this series tells will remain alive in the untranslatable place within me.

What I can tell you is it’s about my experience living with a chronic illness after almost dying of a septic blood infection. It’s about my experiencing nursing for three years while not being able to feel my limbs. It’s about not sleeping through the night as I took care of my infant, then toddler, for years after getting sick. It’s about being in a pandemic, with a toddler, while being sick, and in a psychologically and emotionally abusive marriage.

That’s the context—the facts that I can easily relay.
The rest, I’ll let the images speak for.
